Greetings Stowe Middle School Families,
As we head into the second half of May, our days are getting busier with end of year activities, presentations, concerts, field trips and transitions. On that note, we hope you can join us tonight for our SMHS Band and Chorus Spring Concert at 7pm.
This week our seventh graders have been giving their speeches to classmates and teachers in the lecture hall of the auditorium. I have been blown away by our students’ ability to speak about such diverse and often controversial topics. These topics have ranged from distracted driving to cancer to clean energy and saving the orcas. Every speech I have had the opportunity to hear has given me a glimpse into how our students’ think and what they are passionate about. Parents are invited to join us on June 6th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm for the 7th Grade Speech Expo. We hope you can make it!

Despite the chilly temperatures, our sixth graders traveled to the Fairmont Farm in East Montpelier for Dairy Days and enjoyed getting up close and personal with the animals! While there they got to experience the workings of a real dairy farm.
6th Grade students will continue with their hands-on learning tomorrow when they visit Montpelier. They will be visiting the State house, the Vermont Supreme Court, and the Vermont History Museum. This will be another fantastic and warmer day to see first hand how our capital looks and is run. One of the nicest things about visiting the State house is the welcome that we all receive. “This is not just the Governor’s house, but it is OUR house. This place belongs to us all and all are welcome”. So, if you find yourself in Montpelier over the summer, stop in for a tour. It is a beautiful, historical, and interesting place.

Eighth graders have begun planning for their graduation! They are excited to be actively involved in this special event. There has been much reflection among them around their Stowe Middle School experience and they look forward to sharing this at the graduation ceremony scheduled for June 12th from 6-7pm.
