Dear PAML Families,

I’d like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving break.  This first multi-day break of the school year is significant for everyone.  I hope this break provides all of our families with an opportunity to rest, relax and rejuvenate.  Our Thanksgiving break also marks the end of the first trimester of the school year.  Upon return from our break we’ll be working hard to complete and distribute our first mastery report of the school year.

I wrote last week that this year, the district has updated the mastery report to provide more clarity to families about how their students are progressing in their learning. The mastery report will look different this year, the color coding has been removed, we have shifted to a four point scale, and there are now individual student narratives on the report. Another shift that we’ve made is only providing a score for standards where we expect students to be meeting proficiency.  As a result of this shift, mastery reports in trimester 1 will have quite a few blanks on them.  These blanks will be filled in subsequent trimesters as we expect proficiency in more standards.

For more information about the mastery report, please view this sample and FAQ document for families.

Cooler weather and snow finally arrived this week.  Please keep in mind that our students are scheduled to head outdoors every day for recess.  Students should plan on bringing warm clothes and appropriate footwear with them to school each day.  Families that could use some help tracking down warm clothing and footwear for their student can reach out to our school counselor Jessica Dambach (jessica.dambach@lsuu.org)

Finally, this week we were treated to “spirit week” organized by our 8th grade student council and their faculty advisor Courtney Emerson.  Please take a look at some of the photos below.  My personal favorite is “anything but a backpack day”

Please take a look below for some general reminders and announcements.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Matt Young Principal
