Dear SES Families,

We had a wonderful four day week last week, it felt like we started in summer and ended the week in winter. We have a growing lost and found located inside the front door, if your child is missing any items, stop by and take a look. We would love to return all of the jackets, hats, lunchboxes and boots to their homes before the Thanksgiving break. As the winter is coming you may want to consider labeling your child’s clothing so we can return items to the classroom if they are left behind. Please remember to send your child to school with boots, snow pants, hats and gloves as the snow will fly soon enough.

Last week on Friday teachers from across the district engaged in professional development provided by Joelle van Lent, School Psychologist. Joelle focused her work with faculty on supporting students’ motivation, regulation and empathy through the COVID Recovery. It was a really powerful session that considered the developmental needs of our children and best practices for supporting them  in our classrooms. We are doing a really great job in this area at Stowe Elementary and we walked away with deeper understanding and some new ideas.  Teachers also worked in collaborative teams focused on preparing for trimester 1 grading and reporting. New this year, teachers will be providing individual student narratives helping families to better understand how their individual child is doing both academically and socially. These narratives will provide insights into how your child is progressing and specific learning goals for them.  This addition of individual student narratives was heavily influenced by feedback from families through survey data last year.

As we are getting closer to Thanksgiving break, I want to remind those who would like to participate that we still have several items needed on our Giving Turkey on the community bulletin board at drop off. These donated food items go to families in need in our community.

After School Programming – We are excited to have our first afterschool program session starting this week. We had an overwhelming response to the offerings and really positive feedback so far. A huge thank you to the faculty who are working to bring these programs to students after school.  We still have openings in a few programs, if you are interested in signing your child up, please call the school.

Family Advisory Council and Portrait of a Graduate – We had our first meeting of the Family Advisory Council on Monday.  We utilized a process developed by the Portrait of a Graduate Team called the SOAR model. This model asked the team to consider strengths, opportunities, aspirations and results we would like to see at Stowe Elementary School and the district in the next five years. We will be engaging students, faculty, staff and the larger school community in a similar process to provide feedback into how the community answers the question: What are the most important characteristics, skills and experiences that graduates of LSUU need for success in learning and life?

Friday Program – If your family could use any assistance or needs any clothing or equipment to fully participate in the Friday program, please be in touch with the school and we will coordinate with our local partners to ensure a successful year.

PTO Updates

Square 1 Art catalogs should have gone home last week (if you didn’t see it please check backpacks!).  Ms. Hoffman once again has helped our children make beautiful art and Square 1 Art has taken that artwork and created amazing gifts.  All orders must be placed online by 11/29!

All orders will ship to HOME – not school.  If you are ordering for holiday gifts – order ASAP to avoid holiday shipping delays! All orders generate a percentage of earnings to the PTO which we use to fund our yearbooks and cultural arts committee events!

Wreath & Garland Pick-up this Saturday 11/19 from 9 am – 12 pm at the Rec Center.  Please drive up and we will meet you at your vehicle and place your order in your car!  IF you will be unable to pick up Saturday, please coordinate with a friend to pick up your order or email to add local delivery to your order for $5.

Volunteers Needed! We are looking for a few more volunteers on Friday (unloading) and Saturday (deliveries) if you are available!

Community Postings – The Rec department is actively looking for 3rd and 4th grade girls to sign up for basketball this winter.  Children will learn and develop basketball skills, team play, sportsmanship and greater appreciation for the game in a safe and fun environment. This is a non-competitive program with the main emphasis on having FUN! For more information please see this link from the Rec Department.

Lamoille County Food Share – The Lamoille County food share will be offering Thanksgiving provisions at the pantry this week. The pantry will be giving out turkey breast and a bag of fixings this Thursday Nov 17th thru Wednesday Nov 23rd, from 9am-11:30am. Remember the pantry is closed on Sunday.
