Dear SES Families,

Happy final week of September. There are many exciting things happening at Stowe Elementary this week including a field trip for the fifth graders to Hosmer Point, a first grade field trip to Burtt’s Apple Orchard and Open House on Thursday evening from 5:30-6:30.

Kindergarten students working on writing about a topic they know a lot about. These two students selected art and trees as their topics.

Math Menu

This year teachers are participating in comprehensive professional development through All Learners Network focused on instructional practices and pedagogy called Math Menu. Last week, SES teachers partnered with their colleagues from Morristown Elementary School, The Elmore School, and Peoples Academy Middle Level for continued training. Math Menu is an approach to teaching math that focuses on providing all students direct grade level instruction as well as targeted instruction for each child both to address any gaps or misconceptions, as well as to provide challenges and extension opportunities for all students.  Using a Math Menu approach allows for all children to be challenged in math.  I look forward to continuing this work and seeing the impact that it has on students and learning. For more information about All Learners Network, please see this link.

Family Advisory Council

I am excited to be launching the Family Advisory Council this week.  The intention of the Family Advisory Council is to gather a representative group of families to come together to help set goals, provide feedback and make decisions in partnership with the school. If you are interested in participating on the council please complete this form. If you have any questions about this group, please reach out to Maura Wieler.

School Safety

We will be having our first lockdown drill of the school year on Wednesday, September 27th. This is an announced drill and the teachers will be talking with their classes about why we practice drills and how to stay safe.

Students in the 4th and 5th-grade wing are welcomed by a Hispanic Heritage Month bulletin board this month.

Open Positions

We have two open positions at Stowe Elementary, an Early Education Paraeducator, and a Special Education Paraeducator. Please use the links to view the job postings or call Maura for more information.

Enrichment Opportunities

This year at SES we have access to extra COVID relief funding (ARP ESSER) to provide the children of our school and community co-curricular enrichment opportunities. We are looking for feedback from families to help shape our plan on where to focus the co-curricular enrichment funding, including the types of activities and/or events you would like to see us provide. We also can use it towards equipment/supplies for students you feel we are lacking in our school. Thank you for your time and contribution to this wonderful venture!  Please provide your feedback by Wednesday, September 28th. Please use this link to complete the form.

Hello Stowe Community!

I am thrilled to be a part of the Stowe Elementary community. For the past five years, I have been teaching on the other side of Mount Mansfield, at BRMS in Jericho. I was a looping ⅚ teacher who teamed with two well-versed educators. My first year teaming I was a math and science teacher and my last two years I was an ELA (reading/writing) and science teacher. I also coached their field hockey program, helping to restructure how we help build skills for beginning athletes and incorporating mindfulness into athletics. I believe that every child can be successful with the correct resources given to them, even if that sometimes means time. My teaching philosophy is to look at the whole child, with a strong focus on their mental well-being. This is why I am in a Graduate program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on child therapy.

I grew up in Essex, VT where I graduated from EHS a number of years ago. Outside of school you can find me doing many different outdoor activities. I’m an avid hiker. You can also find me mountain/gravel biking, skiing in the winter, running half marathons or doing cold water plunges throughout the year. I’m not always on the go! I do love watching sports, writing poetry, advocating for human rights, eating donuts and doing yoga to help balance my active lifestyle. In most cases you will find my fluff ball pup Bodhi, living it up right beside me. We are very excited about our first winter in Waterbury and love being so close to the mountains!
