Greetings SMS Families,

This week was a bit of a rollercoaster as we were challenged by Mother Nature’s rain and thunder timing that forced us to stay inside a lot. This is a good reminder that we are doing our best to go outside for recess unless there is heavy rain, thunder or lightning. We encourage all students to have a raincoat. We find the fresh air and opportunity to exercise is beneficial to the second half of our day. Our recess is only twenty minutes and we encourage all of our students to participate. During the winter, we go out to the hill near the tennis courts and take advantage of sledding. This may be a good time to see if winter clothing fits, etc. if you are in need of any items like rain coats or winter clothing you can let any educator know and we’ll help out.

Above: Students are participating in 4-square, a popular recess option.

We completed Picture Day for 6th and 8th Graders this week. If your child is in 7th grade or was absent on Picture Day, your child’s next opportunity to have their picture taken is Monday, September 26th. If you would like a picture packet, call us at 802-253-6913.

Schools are required to conduct both egress and lockdown drills in September. Our school’s crisis team is developing our lockdown lesson plan for middle schoolers. In addition, we will email families about our drill and provide a couple of guiding questions if you wish to debrief with your child. If you have questions or feel your child may need additional support, please reach out to me or our school counselor.

Lastly, an exciting opportunity returns for parents! Last year, we piloted a family-school partnership by having a Parent Advisory Council. The Parent Advisory Council intends to gather a representative group of families to come together to provide feedback and make decisions in partnership with the school. Please click here if you are interested in participating in the Parent Advisory Council. Also, please contact me if you have any questions about this group.
