Dear PAML Students and Families:
I am thrilled and excited to welcome everyone to the 22-23 school year. We are excited to begin a new school year with all of the new knowledge and skills that we have gained over the summer. We are looking forward to a rigorous year of learning for our students that prioritizes the unique development needs of middle level students while supporting academic growth for all. Please see below for a few additional details about our school opening. Additionally, please mark August 31st at 5:30 on your calendars at which time we’ll be welcoming students and families to the building for our annual open house.
Your student’s group assignment has been distributed by a physical mailing this year. Everyone will also receive an email invitation to complete our E-registration via PowerSchool. This is where you may also look in your student’s schedule where it says Teacher Advisory to identify a student’s assigned grouping. As in the past, Students typically travel in this group throughout their day. Your student’s Teacher Advisor also serves as the initial point of contact for any concerns or questions.
Within the ecollect registration software is the annual Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Even though school meals are once again free for all students it remains critical to fill out this form as our eligibility for critical federal grant programs depends on it.
You may have also received a link for something called “RankOne.” We will be using RankOne as our athletics registration platform this year. Please follow the prompts found within the link to sign your student up for soccer (6-8) or cross country (5-8) this fall season. Practices begin on September 1st.
I’d like to close this letter by extending a sincere expression of gratitude to Mark McNall and Elizabeth Emerson for coordinating our programming for students this summer. I would like to also thank the many adults that implemented our programming along-side them. We were able to provide programming for nearly 40 students this summer. These programs go a long way towards helping us achieve our academic and social-emotional goals.
We can’t wait to see everyone for the first day of school on August 29th!
Matt Young, Principal
School Communication: Email will be the primary mode of school-wide communication throughout the year. Please make sure that your email address is correct in PowerSchool so you do not miss an important piece of communication. Please also subscribe to PAML’s News and Announcements Page for weekly updates Here: lsuu.org/subscribe. For specific questions regarding your student during the school year please get in touch with your student’s TA teacher.
Arrival: Students may arrive at school between 7:30 and 7:55. Students will go to designated grade level classrooms each day. For the first day of school students should go directly to their TA teacher’s classroom. TA begins at 7:55. We would like all students to be in the building at that time. If you are dropping your student off please pull all the way through to the area by the Middle School doors before dropping your student off if space is available.
Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at 2:45 each day. It helps our office tremendously if families can let us know of any dismissal plan adjustments before 2:00 each day. The best place to pick your student up is the designated parking spaces in the large parking lot out front or along the sidewalk between PAML and MES. Please do your best to avoid waiting in the fire lanes directly in front of the building.
Meals: Meals will once again be free for all students this year. Breakfast and lunch are available each day. Please encourage your student get breakfast before getting settled in their designated classroom in the morning.
Athletics: All Middle School athletics will begin on 9/1. We will be offering Cross Country 5-8 and soccer 6-8. Both sports are available for boys and girls. There are tasks for registration for both students and families in our new RankOne software. This is also where you’ll find updated schedules. If anyone needs help navigating the software please get in touch with our office.
Unbound (After School Program): We will once again be running a robust offering of programs through Unbound, our after school program. Programs will begin on 9/12. Please stay tuned for registration details
Covid Safety Guidelines and Prevention Strategies:
- We will continue to follow guidance issued by the Vermont Department of Health
- Stay Home When Sick: This is the most important prevention strategy. Students should stay home if they:
- Show Symptoms of Covid-19
- Have a fever (temperature greater than 100.4)
- Masks will continue to be optional. We will be taking whatever steps necessary to ensure that everyone feels comfortable making mask choices that are right for them.
