Greetings SMS Families,

We are in the final phase of the 2021-2022 school year. Tonight, we will have our 8th Grade Graduation and send 66 students into high school! I had the opportunity to practice speeches and the graduation ceremony procession today. They are ready! This will mark our final edition in the weekly family update. If important news arises over the summer, you’ll get a notification via email.

I have seen students fully engaged in all three grade levels as we close out the year. In 6th grade, there was a lot of excitement for our recent VINS visit with raptors and owls. This visit rounded out their non-fiction unit.  In 7th grade, there was a lot of teamwork happening as groups presented their “Policy” debate. In 8th grade, students presented their studies in the much beloved Academic Fair. All three projects allowed our students to shine and show their skills!

I know I speak for all of our educators when saying THANK YOU for your support this school year!

Have a great summer!

Dan Morrison, Principal

Theater Department Costume Call!
The SMHS theater department is looking to collect items to grow our costume closet for future productions, and we could use your help! Do you have any middle school-high school age costumes or clothes you no longer need? We would gladly take those clean and gently-used items! If you do have something you’d like to donate please leave them at the front office, and Mr. Gagnon and Ms. Chris will take it from there! Thank you for your consideration!

Covid Testing Update FREE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TESTING You can be tested at a Health Department testing site through the end of June, through your health care provider, or at many local pharmacies. People with or without symptoms can be tested at most testing locations. Free take-home tests that give you rapid results are available at many Health Department testing sites! Testing is recommended for people with symptoms, and close contacts of someone with COVID-19 who are not up to date on vaccines. We encourage Vermonters to have home tests on hand, in case they develop symptoms.

You can make an appointment (online or call 802-863-7240) or just walk in. An appointment guarantees you a test. ASL interpretation is available by video at all Health Department testing sites.

The Northeastern Organic Farming Association (NOFA) of Vermont is offering a Farm Share Program which reduces the cost of a local CSA (community supported agriculture) share for Vermonters in need of financial assistance. A CSA is a subscription (usually weekly) from a farm for a regular supply of farm-fresh veggies, dairy products, meats, bread, and more. The Farm Share Program will subsidize up to $300 (up to 50%) of a local CSA. Learn about eligibility, here.

The spring/summer application period will close on April 30th or when funds run out, so apply now!
