Dear SES Families ~
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders successfully completed the SBAC exams and you can just imagine their elation, as evidenced in this photo of Maddy Hulbert’s 5th graders:
We anticipate test results being sent to parents in August, based on past history.
We are looking forward to another action-packed week, starting with our Lockdown Drill at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 18. I have invited the Stowe Police and Fire Departments to join us. I will lead our students through the drill as we practice together for what we would do if we needed to lock our school. I am expecting the total drill to last for 10 minutes. This will be followed by an evening of fun with our Talent Show at 6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there! Please enter through the gym doors, which open at 5:45. Suggested donation for the show is $5 per family and popcorn will be $1 per bag. Proceeds for this event will be donated to the charity “Never Give up Ever,” which supports local children and families struggling with a cancer diagnosis.
We are thrilled that the student body may now assemble in the gym for Community Meeting, and parents and community members are invited to attend. Our next Community Meeting will take place at 8:30 AM on Friday, May 20th, with Andrea Bixler’s 1st grade class presenting and Tamara North’s 4th graders leading “Guess Who.”
According to Brian Barney, the collaboration between Physical Education and Music is being brought back this year with a crowd favorite, drumming. He reports that students and faculty/staff are excited (albeit a bit rusty), but the spider webs will disappear quickly. P.E. and Music classes will be combined from May 31st through June 10th. Please be sure to ask your child about this universally popular activity! All classes will be held in the gymnasium
Please note a new summer reading initiative offered by the Stowe Free Library… spread the word!
On Monday, May 30th, the SMS and SHS bands will gather at 11:00 AM in front of the Akeley Memorial Building on Main Street for a stationary performance as part of the American Legion’s observance of Memorial Day. You are all cordially invited to what promises to be a stirring, patriotic performance. Please note there’s no school on that day.
Be sure to visit the Student Art Show at The Current between now and May 28th. Kayla Hoffman has worked incredibly hard to showcase the talents of our SES artists and the show is bright, energetic and uplifting… it truly is a must see! Please note, face masks are required.
We currently have two paraprofessional positions available at SES. If you or someone you know would be interested in exploring this opportunity further, please contact Nina Slade (email@example.com or 802-253-4154). Ideal candidates will provide support for individual and small groups of students, personal development, behavioral support, and social-emotional skills. Additionally, we are seeking individuals to fill in as guest teachers (aka substitute teachers). Please contact Dot or Sue as they will gladly assist you!
SES / 6 Day Rotating Schedule ~ What does this mean? This year we have a 6 day Unified Arts rotating schedule.
