Please Note: While the school day officially begins at 8:10 AM, supervision starts at 7:30 AM. Please do not drop your child off prior to 7:30 on any day. We’ve noticed that children have been arriving considerably earlier than allowed, which is a safety concern for all of us.

Dear SES Families ~

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely, rejuvenating Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. We have four more weeks of learning opportunities and celebrations before our December break, with a noon dismissal on Friday, 12/3, and the break beginning on 12/24 and lots of fun activities sandwiched in between!

LSUU will be testing BrightArrow, our direct notification system, TODAY, (11/29). Alerts will be sent to the contact information we have on file including email, text and voice phone. Please contact support at 888-4541 extension 5099 or your school after the test if there are any adjustments that need to be made to your contact information.

Please note that we will be practicing bus evacuations on Wednesday morning (12/1) during student dropoff.  The bus loop will be closed to thru traffic while the drills are being conducted.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we ensure the safety of our students.

As a gentle reminder, with the colder weather settling in, having the right clothing for outdoor learning, physical education and recess is so important. Children should come to school with jackets, snow pants, gloves or mittens, hats and boots and all items should be clearly labeled.  Also, please remember to send in extra masks, as they are getting wet and dirty at recess.

As we prepare for the holiday season, we’re happy to report that the traditional Stowe Children’s Lantern Parade, sponsored by Stowe Vibrancy, Stowe Mercantile and Ferro Jewelers, will return this year. The parade starts at SES on Friday, December 3rd at 4:30. Please note: there will be a noon dismissal on this day. Plan on picking up your lanterns outside the front entrance of the school at 4:15 and return them to the same location afterwards. The parade, led by our favorite elf, Mr. Dacales, travels up to Main Street while making stops along the way to magically light up trees and storefronts. We are planning on singing a few carols in front of the Memorial Building just before the lighting of the big trees along Main Street at around 5:00 pm. Parents must accompany their children during the parade.

Plan on a very special day on December 16th as we enjoy wonderful musical performances, as scheduled:

Third Grade Concert 8:40-9:10

Fourth Grade Concert 9:40-10:10

Fifth Grade Concert 10:50-11:20

First Grade Concert 12:10-12:30

Kindergarten Concert 1-1:15

Second Grade Concert 1:40-2:10

Please note, parents and siblings are welcome to attend at their children’s designated times. Masks are required and you must sign in at the kiosk in the lobby entry. Due to Covid restrictions, we must limit the number of people in the gym, so invitations to extended family members will not be forthcoming this year.

Lamoille South is committed to the safety and health of our students and staff.  We want to inform you that free COVID-19 vaccines are currently available for everyone age 5 and older.

You can find additional information, including how to schedule an appointment, on the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) website.

In-school vaccination clinics will be held at SES as follows:
Stowe Elementary Dose 1 Date – 01/11/2022
Stowe Elementary Dose 2 Date – 02/01/2022

Information on how to register for these, as well as dates of other local in-school clinics, can be found on the VDH site.

Please remember that if your child has symptoms we ask you to keep them at home, and to contact your primary care doctor who will advise you on your next steps. You can also feel free to contact Jordan at (802) 585-4087.

Friday Program Dates: January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 11, 18 and March 4, 11.

We are looking for an organized, responsible parent or community member to commit to coordinating Friday Program logistics at Spruce this winter.  Please keep in mind that this position requires a distinct time commitment and the right person will be eligible for an Epic Local pass. The continuation of the Friday Program is in jeopardy if we cannot fill this position. The position does NOT need to be filled by one person, but could be a team or group of volunteers working together. The position also comes with training.

To successfully manage and coordinate the groups for SES at Spruce, this position requires:

  • Correspond with chaperones each week to ensure their attendance.  Ensure that we have chaperones comfortable with teaching every level (e.g., make sure that we have folks comfortable teaching never ever or very new skiers)
  • Find substitute chaperones when a volunteer is unable to attend a session (including when this occurs on Friday AM) or combine existing groups
  • Confirm the groups on Friday morning and send lists to SES for printing
  • Make sure that the group signs (w/group #s) get to Spruce with the group lists and dismissal plans
  • Correspond with chaperones after session (electronically is fine) regarding group composition/skill set of students and make any changes accordingly

Please contact the office at SES if you are interested.

As many of you know, this year we are hosting our Community Meetings on Friday in the gymnasium at 8:30 a.m. Parents of children who are presenting, telling jokes or doing a special activity are invited to the gym for an in-person presentation of Community Meeting. We live stream the meeting in classrooms. Community Meeting on 12/3 will feature Katy Farber’s 5th grade class with Sean Semler’s 4th graders hosting “Guess Who.”

SES / 6 Day Rotating Schedule ~ What does this mean? This year we will have a 6 day Unified Arts rotating schedule. It will be important to know what day it is on the schedule so that your child/ren will have the important materials and supplies needed for their Unified Arts classes. We are implementing this schedule so that we have no more lost days and classes. Classroom teachers will be messaging about what this will look like on a daily basis.  The schedule for the upcoming two weeks is as follows:

Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4Day 5Day 6
   11/2911/3012/1
12/212/312/612/712/812/9

Thank you for your continuing partnership and support. As always, if I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me directly or set up an appointment with Dot or Sue.

Warmly,

Nina Slade

PULSERAS are back this year!

Students in SES’s 4th grade Spanish classes will be partnering with The Pulsera Project in December, dates and times coming soon. The Pulsera Project provides sustainable, well-paying work opportunities for nearly 200 artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala, most of whom make colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish. Pulseras will be sold for $5 before the start of school in the Spanish classroom The proceeds will be directly invested in a wide range of social impact programs in Nicaragua & Guatemala, including:

*Sustained employment for nearly 200 artists

          *Secondary education programs

*University scholarships for artisans and their families

*Healthcare for artisans and their families

*A housing program for artisans and their families

We hope this will be a highlight of the school year as students engage with the beauty of Latin American culture while lending support to these skilled artisans and their communities!
