Greetings Stowe Middle School Families!

I want to start off by saying thank you to our families for attending parent-teacher conferences. We had about forty percent attendance via in-person and sixty percent attendance via remote meetings. We are closing our parent-teacher conference feedback form on Friday. Please feel free to share your experiences with us by clicking here. We will use this information to think about our next conference opportunity in the spring. We will continue to think about ways to invite our families into our school and share the experiences of student success throughout the year.

Above: Ms. Bal welcomes a parent back to in-person conferences! Conferences allow us to share academic progress and growth based on observations, data, work, etc. Focusing on students’ strengths, needs and learning styles too! Great to welcome parents back!

Yesterday marked our first in-person assembly in a year and a half! Our entire school read a Golden Dome Book Award Nominee in Millionaires for the Month! As a reward, we had an author visit from Stacy McAnulty! Stacy met with each grade level via an assembly and held lunches with aspiring writers too! Assemblies featured in-depth discussions of character analysis, understanding themes and of questions from the audience! As an added surprise, each student was allowed to keep their copy of the book and get it autographed by Stacy! See some of the photos from this great day!

One of the changes this year at Stowe Middle School was moving sixth grade unified arts into the first period of the day. This morning, I toured each classroom: art, design and technology, music and physical education. It was exciting to see our students wide awake and excited to be doing this hands-on work. See the photo tour below!

Also, the Stowe Friday Ski/Snowboard Program needs your help! To make this wonderful opportunity work, we need volunteers to support our children and keep this program alive. The Friday Program dates are: January 7, January 14, January 21, January 28, February 11, February 18, March 6, March 4, March 11. We would love to have you for all 8 days, but understand if you cannot commit to every day. Anything you can give helps!  If you can help at all, please fill out THIS FORM and you will be contacted by a FP Coordinator.

A final share comes from our collaboration between Jeff Grogan and Kyle Weatherhogg. Jeff is a seventh grade teacher and garden club advisor. Kyle is our district’s Farm to School Coordinator at Lamoille South Unified Union. Jeff and Kyle have been teaching students about food science via our garden! Today we harvested concord grapes and made grape jelly from scratch! Wow! These students were excited!

Finally, I want to thank all of you for being supportive in our work to keep our students healthy and safe. When I speak to other principal colleagues throughout the state they’re impressed by the family support we have! Keeping students home when they don’t feel well is hard to do but important and I sincerely appreciate that families are helping us with this. Thank you!

Have a great day!

Best,
Dan Morrison, Principal
