Greetings Stowe Middle School Families!

Above is a recent post from Stowe Middle School’s Twitter feed. Want to see more pictures and happenings at Stowe Middle School? Click here to follow! This is a great example of our educators looking for opportunities to use the outside in lieu of being indoors.

Students are getting prepared to meet the author on Wednesday! Stacy McAnulty will be onsite working with all of our middle level students. 6th and 7th Grade students will discuss how characters change over time and how the author develops characters over the course of a book. 8th grade students have been examining themes of the book and will focus on character relationships and conflict from the book. We are excited to announce that our students can keep their book and the author will gladly sign their copy! A keepsake for sure from this school wide read! Click here to watch the author’s introductory video to our students!

Along with an author visit next week, we have Parent-Teacher Conferences! Make sure to sign-up! Please use this link How To Conference Scheduler Parents for directions on how to schedule your student’s conferences for October 11th.  Please call the office if you’d like to schedule your conference in-person and/or if you need assistance.

Last week, I shared with you information about Learning Targets. I appreciate your feedback and positive comments related to seeing Learning Targets in action. A few parents asked about the level of support our school provides students who may have needs in literacy or mathematics. As a result, I wanted to introduce you to our trio of educators who support mathematics and literacy intervention needs. Lindsay McNall (left) is our math program aide. Ms. McNall supports students in the classroom, provides pre-teach and reteaching opportunities in mathematics. Some of you may remember Ms. McNall as our Algebra long-term substitute from last year. Charlie Gordon is in his 30th year at Stowe Middle School! Mr. Gordon has taught mathematics at all three grade levels and returns this year as our math interventionist. Mr. Gordon is providing pre assessments and providing small group math intervention to our students in four to six week cycles who would benefit from this support. After the intervention cycle a post assessment is given. So far we are liking our results! Hunter Hague taught middle and high school language arts last year at Stowe Middle High School. This year, Mr. Hague is our literacy interventionist. Like Mr. Gordon, he is providing pre assessments, four to six week intervention cycles and post assessments. We’re fortunate to have this amazing team support our students! Read their introduction letters below their picture!

To close, I wanted to say thank you for keeping kids home when they don’t feel well and reporting attendance (802-253-6913). We appreciate your support!

Have a great rest of the week!

Best,
Dan Morrison, Principal
