A Message From Superintendent Tracy Wrend

Winter Athletics
We were excited to learn today that winter sports teams are clear to begin practices with procedures in place to ensure masks and physical distancing at all times.  Practices for LSUU’s teams, including both school-sponsored and informal, student-led practices, can begin as early as January 4, provided schools are open for in-person instruction.  Please support one another positively to follow health and safety guidelines so that our schools can remain open and extracurricular opportunities can begin and continue!   Look for additional information about specific practice schedules and guidelines from your Athletic Directors soon.

Updated Health and Safety Guidelines
The Governor announced today that for the period from December 23 – January 2, one household may gather with one other trusted household.  That is a maximum of two households gathering during this period.  This is a wonderful opportunity for families within Vermont to support each other over winter break.  Please remember that you must quarantine and stay home for 14 days or 7 days with a negative PCR test for:

  • All travel to and from Vermont except for essential travel.
  • Multi-household gatherings within the past 10 days (excluding gathering with one trusted household between 12/23/2020 and 1/2/2021).
  • If you feel sick, have a temperature, or have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If you have been directed to quarantine due to close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, or have tested positive for COVID-19 yourself.
  • If you are awaiting COVID-19 test results.

We also ask that individuals stay home from school and school activities if a member of their household is sick or needs to quarantine.

SHS Principal Update
Principal Gretchen Muller accepted a position last night as principal at Camels Hump Middle School and will be leaving Stowe High School at the end of this school year.  We are grateful for her service at Stowe High and are committed to sustaining the momentum she has built promoting equity and expanding the role of student voice. Please join me in thanking Gretchen for her work with us. We wish her the absolute best in her next endeavor.

The process for appointing a new principal for SHS will begin promptly in January 2021.  Additional information will be forthcoming.
